Claiming refunds on your generosity: a comprehensive step-by-step walkthrough to claim your 33.33% tax rebate in New Zealand.
As a registered charity (CC61749), donations of $5 or more to the Taranaki Hindu Cultural Trust are eligible for a 33.33% tax credit from the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
Log into your Inland Revenue myIR account. If the "Donation Tax Credit" account link is not visible in your main summary window, it means you must register first (applicable if you're claiming a donation tax credit for the first time in New Zealand). Navigate to the "I want to" section at the top right of the dashboard.

Inside the search or options, choose "Register for donation tax credit". This launches the online form where you'll confirm your eligibility as an individual claiming NZ tax residency, tax liability, and check your banking and personal contact details. Fill out and submit this first-time registration form.

Once registered, go to your Donation Tax Credit Account and click on "Enter donation tax credit receipts". Fill in the organization details using your official receipt issued by the Trust: name, IRD number (141 230 689), date, and amount. If you are married or in a de facto relationship, you can choose to split the donation credit between you and your partner.

Fill out the detailed receipt fields in the claim. Upload the PDF file or clear image photo of your official donation receipt issued by the Trust as an attachment. Once everything is verified, click submit to file your donations rebate return for IRD review.

Instead of pocketing your refund, you can choose to re-gift your tax refund directly to the temple! In the final submission screens, you will have the option to transfer some or all of your credit. Provide the Taranaki Hindu Cultural Trust IRD number 141 230 689 to automatically redirect your rebate back into building Aotearoa's spiritual home.
